The Cleaning Power Of Soap Nuts

By Renee Morrow

Laundry detergent can become very expensive for the individual that wants the best quality for their clothing. However, those that have skin allergies may find that they are paying a hefty price for detergents that claim to be hypoallergenic. Many have sought to find something that can get the job done, but for less. Soap nuts may be the solution.

These special cleaning agents originate from the Himalayas where they are produced naturally and grow on trees. They are also known as saponin, which is a soap that it produces. Fibers of clothing are penetrated by this soap, which breaks the tension of water found on its surface. Stains freely are lifted along with dirt particles, as they are rinsed away in the water.

These so called "nuts, " are really not nuts at all. They are a berry that come from a fruit that takes on the appearance of nuts when they dry. Many allergy sufferers have used them with great success.

They also work great for people with sensitive skin. It is gentle enough for baby clothes, cloth diapers, and practically anyone who suffers with allergies. Environmentalists may also rest a lot easier knowing that this product is safe enough for the water and septic systems. One thing that an individual will not see is foam. There are no harmful foam producing chemicals. Everything is pure and natural.

Although this fruit appears to be a great solution to consumers with allergies, those that suffer from other immune problems should always test the product first. Testing can be performed either by washing a small article of clothing or performing a patch test.

The great thing about this fruit is that it is harvested without the use of pesticides or fertilizers. It tastes awful and is not the biggest fan of insects that come to taste its fruit. Therefore, there really isn't a need for pesticide. These fruits are organic in nature because they are produced straight from the earth and live in uncultivated soil.

This fruit has proven its cleaning power through the results that it produces. Consumers have said their clothes have come out looking cleaner and feeling softer. Detergents with chemicals usually weaken fibers, whereas soap nuts loosen fibers and clean them gently. Clothes can stay around a lot longer and not be susceptible to wear and tear caused by harsh detergents.

Usually during the time clothes are being rinsed, small amounts of saponin are being released into the water. This saponin opens up the fibers and doesn't leave any residue behind. It is free to be left in the washer during all cycles, and does not leave behind any grime unlike most cleaners.

A few critics have asked whether or not the fruit is more effective with or without its seed. Tests and research has shown that the fruit works best when the seed is present. The seed is necessary because it agitates the shell wall, whereby resulting in the production of extra saponins.

Soap Nuts have seemed to have won the confidence of mothers, college students, and those that are concerned about the environment. Not only does it clean clothes, but it also softens them. What a bargain!
