Considering Some Points Regarding Grammar School Examinations

By Lucia Weeks

A person has basic needs and becoming educated is one of them. For this, there are various systems being introduced for the optimum effectiveness of teaching the kids. There are those that fare well but then there are also others which have sparked several contradictions. One example would be the grammar schools that are only existing today in some parts of London.

This is not a suitable educational make up for people because of its rules and mainly how it runs. You need to go through grammar school examinations, then it will be decided whether you pass their standards or not. Although there are many who do not want this to be revived, there are still others who believe that the intention of bringing it back would be good.

In connection to this, here are some of the points on why it should be reintroduced and why it is not a good idea. There have been a lot of debates about this issue. And it is only right that people know what they are debating on before taking a side.

There will always be poor people. And because education these days does not come for free, it would be hard for them to attain this without having to spend too much. But because the grammar institutions are free, they can gain access to it and have the best and highest quality of learning. But of course, you have to be certain that they can pass the standards.

Consequently, they would get the best trainings for the career that they could take on in the future. And when you come from institutions with this kind of reputation, you are expected to do well. And it would not be impossible for a child to have a future as an elite.

Talent and skills are two things that are required if you ever want to gain a spot in these institutions. And when these are the types of students that they have, they also make it a point to have a system designed to fit the needs of the children in order for them to improve in their respective areas. You will see that each year, their skills are raised a bar.

Most of the opposition would criticize the system when the only aim that it has is to develop and give the children a better future. One advantage of reviving it is a curriculum that focuses on the needs of the kids. This is not something that can be said for other schools.

But all of this advantages also has an equivalent disadvantage. Because only the best are picked out among the bunch, others will be neglected. And this will create a huge division among the society. Thinking about it, it does not conform well with the standards of equality being campaigned today by many.

It has the capacity to widen the gap between families that are progressive and those that are stuck with poverty. It is true that there are kids that are talented despite their social status. But it is also true that there are children who are also poor but does not possess the academic capacity of the other. In this case, if the system was reintroduced, they would not have the chance to better themselves.
