Can Assisi Help Cats & Kittens With Gingivitis?

By Robin Setser

Dental care is one of the most important topics to cover when it comes to the health of cats. It's easy to see that this is a problem with humans as well, but the proper care is easily obtainable. The care needed for cats may not be as accessible, though, especially for those who have been long-time cat owners. If you were to consult Assisi on the matter of gingivitis, you will be able to see just what's needed to ensure your cat's gums and teeth are as healthy as possible.

Gingivitis is defined as a type of gum disease that can affect anyone, be it a human, cat, dog, or what have you. Basically, this condition starts when food particles get stuck in-between the teeth, as this is where plaque starts to build up. The only way to prevent these particles from bringing this problem about is through routine flossing and brushing. When these processes are not followed, though, it's easy to see that issues can arise.

One must wonder, then, why cats seem to suffer from gingivitis. It's been said that a diet which is high in carbs stands a greater chance of creating plaque, in-between the teeth. One can also argue that natural saliva can add to the problem, though this is an element that cannot exactly be helped. After all, it's more biological than anything else. However, in order to prevent gingivitis from coming about or becoming more of a problem, in cats, here are a few solutions supported by Assisi.

If you want to help to reduce this problem, make an appointment with your veterinarian as soon as possible. This specialist will be able to examine your cat and, if the problem is related to gingivitis, you may be given a special kind of toothpaste to use. Even though regular brushing may be challenge at the onset, it's important to note that this will be less taxing in due time. Depending on the severity of your pet's situation, the vet may also give you antibiotics to further target the gingivitis in question.

To put it simply, your cat's teeth and gums matter to a tremendous degree. If you follow the tips mentioned earlier, there is no doubt that your pet's well-being will only improve in due time. While you may not see results immediately, stick with it. Before long, you'll start to see that your efforts will pay off and that your cat will be in a much better physical state than he or she was in before you exercised a greater level of care.
