How To Maintain Hygiene With Exterminator Brooklyn Pest Services

By Stella Gay

In any urban area, including Brooklyn NY, pests such as rodents and insects are a known problem. No-one likes to handle them or investigate their nests, but where they have become established it can be difficult to get rid of them. This requires the services of a professional exterminator Brooklyn.

Urban pests can be broadly classified into two groups - the animal or mammalian species and the insect types. Most of the time, the animal pests are the rats and mice. The insects might be the roaches, flies and mosquitoes. Dealing with a species revolves around their nature and the magnitude of their infestation. Usually, if there are a few around no-one is too concerned, but when they appear as a plague action is required.

Rodent pests are notorious in urban settlements. They are seemingly impossible to eliminate entirely. Even in neighbourhoods where you would not expect to find them, or where no-one has seen them, the occasional rat corpse appears on the sidewalk. Trying to determine its origin, however, is extremely hard and sometimes even impossible. Yet this is part of exterminating the entire rodent population.

Rats are particularly hazardous because they breed so quickly and they live in inaccessible parts of structures. A single rat female can produce up to 10 small rats in one litter. There is also no limit on how the rats arrange their consanguinity, so even the survival of one male and one female can give rise to the next infestation. Rats are known to carry diseases, since they scavenge anywhere, and they have prominent front incisor teeth which can easily puncture or tear human skin.

Their teeth are that long because they never stop growing. It is only the rat's habitual gnawing on random items that keeps it teeth short. But the gnawing damages structures and assets. Getting rid of the rodent population is typically attempted through the use of poison. Physically searching out and then destroying or killing nests and individuals is too difficult. However, the irony is that rat poison is also toxic to people.

Another pest is the mosquito. People don't always realize that it's only the female mosquito that bites you. Ordinarily, mosquitoes subsist on flower nectar. However, when the mosquito needs to breed, the female starts biting animal hosts in an attempt to ingest protein, which it uses to form eggs. Without these hosts, the mosquitoes cannot reproduce.

Mosquitoes breed in still water. This is particularly a problem at the times of the year that stagnant water is present. Any areas of such water should be cleaned up and left dry to prevent the laying of the eggs. Poisoning the water is another approach, but it then affects the rest of the ecosystem, and even people in the vicinity.

People try hard to deploy DIY tactics in pest control, or to keep their homes as clean as possible. But when these measures fail, they should rope in a commercial exterminator. The professional service will not only destroy most or all of the pest population, but also has experience in tracking down the source, such as the nest, and removing it too.
