Discrimination in the workplace is a phenomenon that has slowly been managed. However, there are still some places where people are discriminated against because they are different from the rest of the people in an office. Among the common type of discrimination are gender and race discrimination. In the modern world, the sexual orientation has diversified which has led to the recognition of the Lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. However, the level of discrimination against this community has also increased. The law mandates that all employees be treated in the same way regardless of their race, sexual orientation and gender. You can start by educating fellow employees on the different type of sexual orientation and their differences. Most people discriminate other people due to wrong beliefs or assumptions made by other people. Let them know how wrong it is to discriminate people because of their sexual orientation.

Set policies that prohibit any form of discriminative behaviors. However, the policies should be specific. This is to ensure that your employees understand the position of the company on issues that are related to unjust treatment. When there are policies set, then the employees will avoid showing any discriminative tendencies.

Consequences should be stated regarding anyone who discriminates other employees due to their sexual orientation. Employees in the company will be smart enough to follow your rule against discrimination to avoid any form of punishment. For example, anyone who discriminates another will be suspended for one year or demoted depending on the intensity of the situation.

Legal protection of this community is an area that has been highly neglected. However, in a majority of the regions, the community is protected by law. In case there is some form of unjust treatment against this community it is advisable to report to the relevant authorities.

The segregation mostly occurs during recruitment of employees. To avoid this, you should make sure that the people who are conducting the recruitment process are open- minded. They should be in a position to accept this community. They should be willing to take this community as part of the entire society. It is advisable to conduct vetting during the recruitment process. This is to ensure that there is no segregation in that process.

They should recognize the LGBT community as part of the society. You should also ensure that you vet the recruitment process to ensure that there are no discriminatory practices.

Discrimination is not right, it might lead to low self-esteem to the person in question, depression and maybe suicide. People should be fully appreciated for who they are. The sexual orientation of a person does not define who a person is; they are more than that. When working in any organization, it is important that people work in unison to achieve the same goals set by the organization.
