The Primary Goal Of The Defenders Of The Gospel

By Elizabeth Powell

Spreading the word of God isn't always easy. After all, the Bible, which delivers the Gospel, has long been the world's best-selling book. A lot of people are familiar with it, but many have strong misconceptions about what it means and who it is for. This is why it is important for defenders of the Gospel to have a clear understanding of their overarching goal.

To start, a lot of people do not know what the Gospel actually is. When this word is accurately translated it actually means the good news. Moreover, it really means news that is so good it almost cannot be true. When you know this, you can effectively help people eliminate the negative connotations of the word of God.

This is ultimately the story of the life and sacrifice of Jesus. More than who Jesus is and what his mission was, it is the tell of how and why he did it. People tend to punish themselves whenever sin has made their consciences heavy with guilt. God can also punish these individuals and the devil stands ready as their accuser. Moreover, dying in a life of sin can actually cause a person to go to hell.

Because Christ has paid the full price for all of sin, people do not need to do anything but believe that he is the Son of God and that he has sacrificed himself and risen again. This is a sure escape from the second death. This sacrifice has opened the door to eternal life for man. People simply need to confess that they have sinned and believe that Christ is the risen son of the one true God.

When defending the Gospel, however, many people make the mistake of making concessions about sin. Given that this is the late hour and that Christ could be returning at any time, this is a grave mistake and a sign of poor diplomacy. A good diplomat or representative of Christ must tell the truth. Although sin is readily and easily forgiven by God in the name of his son, this does not mean that he does not tolerate willful sinning.

There is a quite fine line between acknowledging the truth of the law and representing Christ. Believing in Christ allows for total forgiveness of sin. It is by building a relationship with Christ, however, that people are inspired to do away with sin and to keep their lives holy and righteous.

Defenders have to remember the fact that no one stands righteous before God. Only Jesus lived his entire life without sinning. You cannot be in the habit of judging others in order to be an effective representative of God in this respect. You should instead, convince the world that Christ loves all of mankind and this is why he chose to sacrifice himself.

When people come to acknowledge and accept the true and absolutely unlimited love of God and His son Jesus, they have a greater ability to commit to Christ and Christ-like lifestyles. As a result, rather than telling people that they are going to hell because they have sinned, Christians need to spread the news about God's love and Christ's sacrifice. This has to be done with absolute humility and with the knowledge that building a lasting relationship with Christ will gradually eliminate peoples' desire to sin.
