Companionship for elderly people has grown in leaps and bounds. It has become more popular over the years because of the advantages that it has to offer. For example, it means that elderly people don't have to go through the trauma of adjusting to a new environment at a home for the elderly. The moving process is exhausting.

People like this often become lonely and withdrawn after a spouse dies. It is a big adjustment to make, especially at this time of a person's life. They can suffer in a physical way as a result of the psychological symptoms, such as depression and anxiety. The anxiety is relevant because they realize that they are not alone.

Depression can set in when someone is unable to adapt to this. They may withdraw to their room and prefer not to socialize. It can even be worse when a spouse dies and you feel anxious because you are thinking of the future and how you are going to cope. Being exposed to this type of atmosphere can just bring you down. This is why children of the elderly need to think twice about this.
