Purchasing World Class Imported German Shepherd Puppies From Quality Breeders

By Larry Roberts

Pet ownership is something people choose for a variety of reasons from wanting to have animal companionship to needing an extra layer of security. There are also those individuals who choose to own dogs for the purpose of showing them professionally in competition or for quality breeding. Those looking to purchase world class imported German Shepherd puppies need to be very careful when seeking a breeder.

This quality of dog is rather difficult to obtain so potential owners should use caution so as to not become victims of breeder scams. Quite a bit of research is to be done before deciding to enter into a contract as this is an international purchase. Failing to follow all the steps in the process could have horrible consequences like the pup not quite being up to standards, or paying money but not receiving any animal in return.

Doing an international transaction to purchase a high quality pup is not advised unless one has fully researched both the breed and process. If interested in breeding the animals, or putting them in competitive showings, it is important that one know exactly which qualities to look for in the dogs. From selecting a breeder to choosing a puppy, to arranging delivery and getting papers filed, potential owners need to understand each and every step.

The first step is to know as much about the breed as possible, especially what it is that qualifies the dog as being of a higher standard than those purchased domestically. If showing the animal, one needs to be knowledgeable about the pup's bloodline and the typical attributes of previous litters. There are certain things about Shepherds in general of which one should be aware.

Interested individuals must be completely accepting of the responsibility they are undertaking, as one must be committed to the care of the animal for its full lifetime. This means understanding breed health risks and common personality traits, tending to routine daily needs, and providing training for standard behavioral expectations. When training is over and there is no showing on the horizon, even competitive dogs will be pets needing affection.

After determining this is the perfect breed, the next step is locating a trustworthy breeder. Breeders are those who use an animal's bloodline to decide which female to mate with a particular male in order to produce high quality offspring. Although most breeding facilities are responsible, there are many which should be avoided due to unsavory practices.

Many options for locating a breeder exist. Among the more popular are speaking with people who own or have owned the breed via chat forums online, following kennel club recommendations, or doing internet searches. Whichever avenue is chosen, the importance of thoroughly vetting breeding facilities before signing contracts or sending money is highly stressed.

Among the things to verify of each breeder are the years of experience they have in the field, any health guarantees they offer, breakdown of costs, and their reputation with prior clients. This is not a small financial venture and definitely not one to be approached lightly. This is a very serious, long term commitment.
