Suggestions for Organizing Your Living Area

By Stephen D Mccravy

Organizing your home is not complicated, but it does require initiative and commitment. First you need to devise a plan of action and then reserve a time slot to begin organizing. Keep in mind there is no achievement too small to make an impact; even something like cleaning out one of your drawers. So we will offer a few suggestions to organize your home which will free you from some of the heaviness associated with disorder.

Paper is everywhere, so when organizing your home, you will need ways to get rid of it. Even with so many things done online, such as banking and paying bills, paper is still a problem. Lots of paper things come in the mail, such as catalogs that are never ordered, magazines, junk mail that practical no one wants, and more. You need some kind of way to organize paper stuff, like mail, so you will always know where it is at. You may want to use file folders for your paper things, but you also might want to use one of your drawers, or perhaps a shoe box. A paper shredder will come in handy, so if you don't have one, it would be a good investment. Getting rid of clutter is the goal, so having a secure way to get rid of documents, like old bills and financial information that could be sensitive, is a good reason for having a shredder. To get rid of other things and keep them from piling up, like catalogs or junk mail, you need to have either a box, or a recycling bin.

Quite often you will find that your home has clutter and disorganization, because you have a habit of buying things that get piled up. Do you have a habit of seeing a book, or a magazine, and think that you must have it? If you look around your house, you will notice that your house is cluttered with these items. Every item you purchase, you should really think about, especially if it is an electronic device, but even some kind of clothing. When you are thinking about making a purchase, unless it is an urgent need, you should wait for at least a couple of weeks, before you actually buy. It might be worth buying, if, after that amount of time, you still think that you need it. When you do this, you will keep from buying unnecessary items, which will keep the house neater and save you money.

If you have your own property, one way to get better organized is to build or purchase a separate structure such as a shed. This need not be complicated or expensive. There are many plans for building simple and efficient sheds. Or you could purchase an inexpensive storage unit. You may be surprised how much extra space even a small storage shed will provide for you. Of course, you do not want to simply dump everything you cannot find a place for into the shed and forget about it. This is also an opportunity to do some organizing and discarding of what you do not need. What you want to keep, place in storage boxes that are separated by category, so if you need something from your new storage space you will be able to find it.

You will be amazed at the change it can make when you organize your living space. Even though you may have only thrown out a couple of things and moved some stuff around; it will seem like you have lots more living area. Anytime you can steer clear of disorder and keep your living space free of clutter, you will have a clearer way of thinking.
