Choosing Homemade Or Manufactured Self Tanning Lotions

By Veronica Cappelletti

Sunbathing to get a suntan is now known to be risky. Many more people are turning to the use of self tanning lotions to produce that healthy bronzed glow. Not all the commercial products are effective or produce a good result so be prepared to try a few before you get the results you want.

Your friends may look great, but you may not get the same look when you try the same product. Carrying out a patch test is the best way to find out if a product is right for you. Rather than go out and buy the lotion, ask you friend for a little to test it first. A patch test should let you know if you will have an allergic reaction to the product.

Its best practice to test the product and wait 24 hours to see if you have a reaction. If the test spot resembles the color of an orange, remember it will look a lot brighter over a larger area of your body. You may want to think again before you go out and buy.

Alternatively, you can try making your own homemade lotion. You will find a number of easy to make recipes on the internet that use everyday household ingredients. You will find step by step instructions on how to mix, use and store your home-made lotion.

In addition, you will find instructions on how to prepare and moisturize your skin so that you get the best results. You have the advantage of knowing exactly what is going into the lotion. You are avoiding the use of chemicals and other unknown ingredients that are found in store brought products.

If you prefer to use natural products because you have sensitive skin, you should visit your local health store. They usually stock a variety of products derived from herbs and plants to make self tanning lotions. You can be sure that they contain only natural ingredients.
