The market has different qualities of artificial turfs depending on budget and personal preference. The appearance and durability depend how well you maintain your grass. With the accompanying user manual, it is easy to maintain most turfs. Some maintenance tips are specific to turfs while others apply to all surfaces.

Debris should not be allowed to accumulate on the surface. As a matter of priority, soil and vegetation must be removed using appropriate equipment and methods. Leaf blowers are effective since they do not interfere with threads. Organic material that stays on grass surfaces for too long support the growth of vegetation and hinders effective drainage.

Artificial turfs are difficult to stain as well as easy to clean. Ordinary substances and procedures can be used to eliminate most common stains. An example is where detergent and water are used to deal with alcohol, soft drinks, cream and tomato paste, among other stains in that category. Grease based stains like shoe polish, suntan lotion, cooking oil and nail polish are best cleaned using spirits or grease spots remover.

Application of weed killer once a year is recommended. The aim is to eliminate any vegetation and moss that is likely to affect the surface. Vegetation may also be pulled off synthetic grass when it appears.

Pets require training to avoid using artificial turfs as their toilet. Though such stains are easy to clean with detergent and water, it is easier to avoid them. In case it happens, quick action must be taken and the spot dried with a cloth. This will keep your grass in perfect shape.

There is a possibility of dust and pollen building up on the grass surface. Sometimes, it is difficult to notice this buildup. Turfs that are laid in open spaces are usually cleaned by the rain. If the area is enclosed, it should be hosed on regular basis to eliminate the invisible dirt.

Special brushes are used to clear debris from grass surfaces. They also play the role of grooming that keeps the threads upright. Avoid using hard-steel brushes because they destroy the turf and reduce its lifespan.

Bacteria easily build up on synthetic grasses depending in some environments. Experts have suggested a DIY procedure that involves mixing vinegar and water at a ratio of one unit each. Expansive areas like sports fields, municipal parks and recreation spaces are sprayed using the hose. A hand sprayer is used for domestic purposes.

Synthetic turfs can be repaired in case of a burn. This, however, does not restore the area to its original state. It is advisable to use a metallic sheet in case you have to light fire over the grass. Do not drop cigarette remains on synthetic turf since it might catch fire. Shovel ice and snow away, use an ice blower or allow it to naturally melt off.
