Things To Know About Having A Photographic Memory

By Mary Brooks

In simple terms, this is the ability of an individual to remember images, sounds or objects after a few instance of being exposed to them. This usually is without the use of mnemonics to help them recall. It mostly occurs in few children and some adults. In relation to this, the following is an article on photographic memory.

Only two to ten percent of children in early childhood are gifted with this special ability. It is important to note that this does not go hand in hand with ones level of intelligence. In the event that this ability is not natured, it usually disappears by six years of age. This however is non-existent in most adults unless it is natured from childhood to now their adult life.

A good example of this is in persons who can just take a few minutes to go through n entire book or some pages and immediately be able to state all the content that they have read. A majority of people are usually mesmerized by this taking into account that the average person cannot be able to do the same.

One of the many benefits which people such as these enjoy is in academic. In the event that they have to study last minute for an exam, they will absolutely have no problem in this. It will see to it that they end up getting good grades unlike their counterparts who did not have enough time to study.

Another great advantage of this is that individuals are able to recall the exact position they placed their items. This will come in handy especially in the event that one looses something. There is nothing as frustrating as not remembering where important items were placed. Having this type of memory ensures that one does not have to go through all the hustle of trying of recalling where certain items are.

This has been the center of many debates for many years now. Scientists claim that there is no enough evidence to support this theory. This is in contrast with the many published books and articles which claim that people like these do exist in real life. One should however differentiate between the ability of a person to have a good memory and for them to have a photographic one because the two are extremely different.

There are also disadvantages as there are advantages. To start with, the ability to remember everything is not always the best thing. This usually is due to the fact that one remembers both the good and the bad. It means that they can recall all the negative experiences which they went through leading to individuals being faced with depression and anxiety.

To sum up the above, those with this gift usually complain that sometimes the pressure is too much. They usually argue that they cannot be in a position to focus on a specific thing as there is too much for them in their minds. This is the reason as why they are not able to get better grades in school.
