How To Set A Mole Trap

By Sandra Turner

If you wish to be a professional mole trapper there are few tips you need to know. Most people have tested that the most effective way of catching the moles is by trapping. In most cases it becomes very difficult especially if you have no clue on how to set a mole trap. Get to know if their tunnels are difficult to understand so that you know your next step.

Moles despite being nuisance they help in soil aeration and controlling other harmful bugs found in the soil. If you can be comfortable with them living around you they do not cause any major harm. However if it gets to your neck trap them. You can set live trapping which is done by setting a big bucket under the active tunnel waiting the mole to fall inside the bucket.

You can then cover the hole with plywood as it will let you keep track of the mole. Once it falls in take it to a different location far from your property. However, the most tested and effective method has been spring trap. Here one is supposed to make a given area inside the tunnel flat and place the traps over it. These traps have directions on how to set them.

Step by step follow the instructions indicated and arm the tool. In case it takes days before it has been trapped remove and take it to a different tunnel. This kind of trap is activated when the mole pushes itself hard touching the spring. These traps must be set in places where moles are active. Therefore before taking any step locate the active tunnels.

If you get a trap before the mole settles you will end up chasing one mole all over you compound. A mole will not settle until it feels secure in a given area. Do not distract it until you stop seeing mole hills pop up every morning. To know how long and deep the hole is stick in a something that can measure the length.

The trap should be in a position whereby it can be set off once it is touched. These traps are closely related to the mice ones whereby with the slightest touch the go off. You do not want to lose your target. Place it a place where there will be no distraction. Ensure that you remove the soil away from the trap since it could prevent moles from being trapped.

Cover the hole like it was after setting them. When carrying out the process ensure you remove any spilled soil and make sure no more falls in so that the entrance is blocked. During the covering process ensure it is well sealed to avoid light from penetrating into the hole. Light scares the moles away thus they could escape before being trapped.

Some people are experts in mole catching business and are in fact very passionate about the job. Finding an active tunnel and setting the trap should be the first priority in case you want to be a professional. They can be so hard to catch but if you are passionate go for it. With patience and persistence most catchers have perfected the act.
