Children And Parents Benefit From The Before And After School Program Katy Academies Offer

By Martha Thomas

The majority of parents want the best for their children. Many busy parents, who have to leave home early for work and get home late, have a problem when it comes to childcare when school is not in session. Regular daycare and babysitters are expensive and don't always offer structured supervision. Leaving children home alone can be dangerous. For these, and other parents, there are plenty of advantages to the special before and after school program Katy academies offer.

Getting homework done each day can be a big hassle, especially if there is no adult to supervise the lessons until after supper in the evenings. With these programs, doing homework is a priority. A lot of children do much better if they sit down directly after class, when the material is still fresh on their minds, and finish their lessons. This happens in these programs with informed adults to answer questions and help where needed.

Not all children excel at social skills. Some are shy, and others don't always interact appropriately. The Texas programs are a way for children to get together, study, play, and talk together in a constructive way. If there are difficulties, adults provide coping suggestions and supervision. Most studies of the programs have concluded that the children who participate in them are more successful in the classroom.

The staff members who handle the before and following class programs are skilled and experienced in getting young children to think through problems, come to conclusions, and implement solutions. All of this builds leadership skills that will continue to develop as the child grows and matures. Some of the organizations participate in leadership conferences that encourage outstanding children to attend.

It is unfortunate, but in many cases, daycare providers allow children to sit in front of a television or play video games instead of encouraging physical activities. These academic programs, on the other hand, actively engage youngsters in organized playtime. Instead of snacks with high caloric content and little nutrition, the programs provide healthy treats. Some even have gardens that teach youngsters how to grow the food they eat.

Unsupervised and under supervised kids can make poor choices. They may procrastinate when it comes to homework or get into disagreements with their peers. When they are involved in the after hours programs, kids have adults on hand to make sure homework assignments are completed.

Not only are these programs good for the children who participate, they are also beneficial for the parents. Mothers and fathers who don't have to worry about what their children are doing and who is looking after them are more productive in the workplace. They have less stress and more time and positive energy to devote to their children in the evenings.

Parents want the best for their kids. They want their children to have a safe, secure place to stay before and following school. If this place includes adults who help with homework and encourage physical activity, so much the better. In this case the benefits far exceed the costs.
