By Amy Reynolds

Basically, Reiki is a spiritual act of extending compassion to other living beings. In this case, coming to terms with the various traumas that animals could have been through and just be kind to them. Reiki is generally a healing procedure that increases the awareness of an individual to all forms of life that are around us. It, therefore, leads to a peaceful living environment. These reasons have made this practice to extend to animal reiki to also help and heal animals.

There are various ways of ensuring that a person fully gets much from the therapy with regards to the health or well-being of their animal. This will be based on the approach given to the pet in order to have them feel some comfort. To begin with, it is imperative to ascertain that the pet has a feeling of being in charge, a situation that is easily achievable in various ways.

The first step is acting in a way so as to ask for permission from the animal to carry out the healing. You should not begin to initiate any hands-on contact unless the animal starts it during the procedure. The third key is to be alert on what makes your pet comfortable, this is by allowing them to move freely in the treatment space.

Animals like it when the approach is open and hence it is not wise to be specific on the energy you send to the animal. Instead, offer this energy in a friendly manner whereby the animals do not feel threatened to ensure this, be on the same level with the animal to make them more relaxed and have them participating.

Animals do not behave the same way we do during the healing treatment and so you should not expect the same results or behavior. This is because they do not manifest the same results. Finally, it is good to conclude the treatment by thanking your pet for participation.

There are some few codes which govern the procedures used and ideally, these are led by the idea that one needs to remember some of the following items. To begin with, animals are as equal partners during healing processes, they possess mental, emotional, spiritual, as well as physical, aspects which can require healing and that the process transforms the relationships with them thus the essence of incorporating it.

In animals, Reiki can be incorporated by veterinarians as a form of therapy once a pet is brought to them. However, the biggest task is to educate people on the benefits of this process. This is viewed as a holistic approach to pet health. Another suitable application is during rehabilitation of rescued animals.

In conclusion, Reiki is usually very beneficial to animals not only in building a relationship with man but also for their own health. For instance, older pets that are prone to chronic illnesses. This can be used together with the treatment by the veterinarian. The benefits that come with it are among others improved appetite, physical and emotional comfort and improved mobility most especially as a pet starts to wear out from age.
