Here Is Information On Italian Greyhound Breeders

By Angela Sanders

The Italian Greyhound is a breed of dogs that is categorized among greyhounds. It is the smallest member of the greyhound category, with the acronym IG often used to refer to them. Although IG has a delicate appearance, it is an ancient breed that has been around for the last two millennia. It has the attentiveness of a lapdog, but the complexity of ancient hounds. Here are facts regarding Italian greyhound breeders.

The height of a typical IG from the ground to the shoulders is 13 to 15 inches. These dogs have long legs with fine bones. Given that they are coursing hounds, they have leek, curving lines that are characteristic in coursing dogs. These dogs are loving and entertainment companions hence they have been bred for so long. In most cases, they prefer staying on the bed or lap as opposed to the floor.

Unlike other toy breeds like Pomeranians, these dogs are not common, which poses a challenge when it comes to finding a good breeder to purchase from. One can however go through professional associations and clubs like AKC which can help one find a suitable breeder to purchase from. For recommendations, one should contact the AKC.

Apart from using the AKC, one can talk to someone who owns a good IG to learn where they purchased theirs. The toughest process is acquiring the right puppy since it is easy to come across quark breeders that exist only to make money and not to contribute to producing high-quality IGs. Breeding is a lucrative industry that has drawn many people some who lack prior experience in breeding processes.

If one intends to buy a puppy with the intention of breeding in future, it is important to buy from a reputable breeder. A good breeder is usually very interested in the quality of their dogs and will provide all necessary conditions and supplies needed to produce healthy puppies. As such, one does not need to worry about diseases and other bad effects of low-quality stocks.

A puppy obtained for companionship should be spayed or neutered when it attains a certain age. Information on the right time to do the spaying or neutering should be provided by the breeder. In other cases, one can buy a puppy that is already spayed or neutered. Such puppies give one an easier time owning them.

Since IGs are not a common breed, a lot of individuals are not aware of them. As such, the breeder should provide the necessary information concerning the treatment, caring, feeding and socializing aspects of these hounds. Some breeders usually provide this information through pamphlets or they recommend internet reading sources.

A number of people have specialized in breeding IGs. Some expert breeders go to an extent of showcasing their work in shows. This earns them huge amounts of money every year. Puppies of this breed are slightly expensive than other common breeds because of their rarity. Many people will stop to look at the dog when they are being walked on the streets. One should prepare to see this happen a lot.
