Information About The Child Abuse Hotline

By Eloise Hewitt

A lot of kids are neglected in many different forms. Some of this happens because parents are irresponsible and they just should not have been in this role from the start. In other cases it is because parents have been abusing alcohol. This leads to various types of harassment. This is where the child abuse hotline is very helpful.

One has to encourage children to use this number in the case of emergency. In saying that, people who answer calls will be willing to speak to those who are not in a position where their life is in danger. Sometimes one just needs to talk to another adult, and you don't want to do this in the school situation.

Children need to feel safe and secure in a position like this, and they may not want to have a one on one session with a school counselor. They may not trust that person. When it comes to abuse, be it physical or any other type, children have often been threatened that if they were to tell anyone, something will happen to them. This is the problem.

Kids are often neglected and are not given any attention at all. They will develop personality problem in their adult years if nothing is done about this. This can be mild, but if it is severe, then children may not get through school properly because their parents are never there to take of them. One needs to take this into consideration.

There are different levels of experience and this is handled very well. When you are first trained up, then you get a little bit of experience handling minor cases, so you are not thrown into the deep waters. There are people there who have been answering calls for years and years, so one does move up slowly. You have to know what the procedure is.

You have to develop a relationship with the child in order to progress further. It is important to develop a bond because this is the way the child will be able to tell you what is on his or her heart. Trust is the most important thing that you must take to heart here. Usually this has been broken before, so you are their only hope.

You should make them feel that they can come to you at anytime. They should feel comforted and loved, and they should be made to feel like they are in a secure and safe place. Once you have developed a relationship and you know their story, you can decide whether you need to tell the child what to do.

Once they have worked through this stage and the therapist has discovered how severe the situation is, they will have to see whether the child must be removed from the home. Once they do go to a foster home, they should be given treatment on a regular basis, because this is nothing that you can sort out on your own. There are many areas where a child psychologist is needed to help with various aspects of the child's life.
