This is something that you wan to be ready for though so, taking note of some pointers on what to do as a first time dormer is important.

It might not be a good idea for you to bring along a lot of stuff. Remember, you are not going to be staying alone on your room. Someone else is going to be sharing the space with you, it makes sense that you will only bring enough stuff that you need. Bring too many and you will end up crowding the space. Respect the need for space of the other person staying in the same place as you too.

There are a lot of people that would prefer rooming in with people who are close with them, they feel that the transition would be easier if they are going to stay with their friends. This might seem like a good idea that first. But you will find that it might have more downsides. There is the fact that setting boundaries may be harder since these are people that are close to you.

It is important to agree on the things that you can and cannot share with your roommate. Many of the fights and issues that people have with the people they live with in settings like these often stems from not having set necessary boundaries on what the other person can and cannot use. Establishing this early on and setting firm rules about this matter ensures an easier relationship.

Be sure to create house rules as well. You both are likely to have your very own groups of friends that you hang out with, this very likely that you'd want to invite some of them over from time to time. This is fine. But you need to set house rules on how you should be bringing people over. This way, things are done in such a way where the need for space of each party is not breached.

Your computer is likely going to be a property that both you and your roommate will share. This is the reason that you have to take extra precaution in ensuring that the files you have that are meant for you only are protected and locked. Just in case too, get them baked up. Your roommate may not be that tech savvy. So, if he does accidentally delete stuff, you know how to restore them.

Take the time to reevaluate the agreement in the event where you do not think that these rules are not working as well as you though they would be. You want to be sure that these rules are still effective and that it is going to still work for the kind of arrangement you both want. Do not be afraid to sit down and talk to make sure that your space is as ideal as you could get it to be.
