Buying A Midge Head Net

By Patricia Murphy

When the seasons change, there are a lot of things that change with them. Different plants will start to grow, you will start to see different animals and insects, and you may even change your dress code to accommodate the rising or dropping temperatures. A midge head net is one of the things you need to get, especially during spring, to keep your face protected. This headgear will ensure that tiny insects, whether harmful or not, do not keep flying into your face.

The net used and the size of the holes in the mesh, are the first thing you should consider. Keeping in mind that insects vary in size, the only way you will cover your bases, is by ensuring that the holes are so tiny you cannot see them without squinting. This way, not matter how small the insect it will not be able to get to your face.

The skin on the face is typically very sensitive, and you, therefore, have to make sure you buy a material that is not abrasive. Some companies use very fine plastic, to ensure that the mesh part does not feel rough or scratch your face, while others may go with polyester because it feels more like natural fabrics. Before you buy a specific hat, check to see whether it has been pre-treated so that you can confirm that you are not allergic to the chemicals used.

Once you find at least three hats you like, start trying them on. This way, you will make sure that the ones you choose fit you snugly without being too tight. Even if the mesh may be a small distance from your face, check to see whether the elastic at the bottom leaves any spaces, and if it does, look for one that does not. This way, no openings are left for the insects to go through.

This headgear comes in different designs, and this variety will allow you to find something to you like. Most people choose hats that come with visors, to minimize contact between your skin and the mesh. You may also find those with waterproof caps, which will come in handy in a wet area.

Since these hats are not expensive, you can buy as many as you like. For people who are going hunting or working out in the field, you may need to look for something a bit sturdier, and this may be pricier than the regular midge netted hats. The nets on these items are durable, and therefore unless something rips it, one can serve you for at least two years.

Many general stores will stock these items alongside the repellants. You may also choose to buy online, and this will offer you even variety because you will be looking at the items sold at various stores. In case one is traveling to a place that is known for having swarms of insects flying around during certain seasons, it will help to buy a hat before.

Since you will wear these items outside, you may need to clean them even if it is once every few months. For those that are pretreated, check to see the instruction on the cleaning process. If you own a regular midge net, use warm soapy water to hand wash it gently.
