A Brief History of Dog Breeds

By Malaki Z. Braylock

There's a substantial reason that the pet dog has garnered a massive renown as man's truest chum. Over the centuries the common dog has been bound to its human masters through a reciprocal engagement in which both receives what they need and gives what they can . All during the period of this lasting partnership, dogs have been interbred to fit precisely with the needs of human culture in a huge number of massively differing ways .

The result of this deliberate breeding and the evolutionary demands of the different environments in which hounds have found themselves means that today one creature exists in a huge variety of breeds, each of which looks and acts differently and is capable of fulfilling a different role within human society. Most notable nowadays are working dogs- these are put to work by police and customs officials to track down illicit drugs and explosives and to subdue possible assailants , by search and rescue experts to locate the victims of earthquakes, by the blind to assist them in avoiding obstacles, by people who are hard of hearing to assist them in responding to noises, and so on. Today there are even working dogs that can help to alert their keepers to an oncoming epileptic fit, which can be life saver. And some people are beginning to think that some dogs are also capable of using their amazing nose to detect cancer . There's also the more old-fashioned function for working dogs of assisting shepherds to control their sheep .

Other types of dogs are put to work fetching and bringing back birds that have been injured, for providing warmth and company on their human counterpart's laps , for bringing down deer like the Deerhound, keeping wolves at bay like the Wolfhound , for finding and doing away with rats like terriers, for fighting bulls like the bulldog, or even for hunting lions as the Rhodesian Ridge back was originally bred for. Each of these varied kinds of dog was initially bred to meet a clearly defined purpose , but these days many of them are simply family companions .

One of the most common pet dogs in this country was first of all created to assist in retrieving woodcocks that had been shot down and carrying them to the shooting party. The cocker Spaniel emerged as a distinct breed in the 19th century and since then has in stages been welcomed out of the fields and into the family home as human society has aged over the decades . Consequently, currently you are far more likely to spot a Cocker Spaniel relaxing on an armchair in front of the telly with its owner than running across a brook with a dead woodcock in its teeth.

If you're looking for a new loving dog then the Cocker Spaniel is a massively good choice, especially for a first hound. They are easy to look after, kindly and kind-nature animals. They are quite bouncy dogs though , and require plenty of walking if they are not going to be excessively boisterous at home. One of the easiest places to kick off your search for new Cocker Spaniel puppies for sale is on the internet; try searching for the phrase "puppies for sale ".
