What To Consider When Buying Well Drilling Equipment

By Cornelia Reyes

Borehole sinking is the process of extraction of different minerals found underground. This may be in water, gas, petroleum or even titanium. Extraction and injection of minerals from the underground is done by well drilling equipment. Minerals are finally brought to the earth surface. After this it is evaluated and monitored by testing and results produced before mass sinking begins.

Modern types of sinking rigs are automated while others are run manually. The method of extraction that it is intended for extracting a certain mineral will determine the type of rig to be purchased. There are simple and cheap rigs while advanced and expensive rigs are used in heavy sinking. Depending on the geographical and environmental conditions of the extraction region, owners can select from a wide variety of rigs available.

There a variety of rig sections which manufacturers sell to users. They are broadly classified into two categories which include the fixed cutter bits and roller cone bits. Most roller cones have tungsten carbide inserts in order to make it easier for users to make a borehole. The fixed cutter tools have no moving parts so they function through rotation of the bits.

Different manufacturers use different methods in making the sinking bits. Other composites are used in different types of sinking bits which make them very ideal for different soils or grounds. Do remember that additional enhancements and tools may be required to enhance the effectiveness of the sinking machine. These enhancements make it ideal for any sinking situation.

It is essential to factor in the aspect of initial cost of buying a tool. The process of acquisition for these tools consists of both fixed and non fixed costs. In case you are importing the tools, there are certain fees that must be paid for including custom fee, holding and custom duties. It is essential to make an informed decision before acquiring the tools because it leaves no chances of making mistakes by buying the wrong machine. Remember to acquire a license that allows you to operate before buying these machines.

Maintenance and repair costs need a well maintained financial scheme to avoid halting sinking processes. Remember to acquire a warranty for the machine, since break downs may be experienced before it is initially used. Capital intensive machinery like sinking rigs needs insurance contracts so as to claim liability in case of accidents.

Remember these machine preparations need to comply with the safety regulations of a country in which it is being used in. It must be suitable for use by the operators. The purpose in which it was bought up for and the conditions prescribed for use. Inspection prior to use is vital and must be recorded and dated till the next inspection. It must be maintained safely to protect the health of the borehole sinking crew.

Consider the hardware protection measures available for the sinking machine and operators. Ensure that it is fitted with emergency stop buttons, personal protective equipment in control rooms and suitable body guards. It should be fitted with markings and warning devices. Ensure that software measures are to be taken only when the machine is shut down. The well drilling equipment has instructions on how to operate certain levers on the specific sinking machine.
