Purchasing And Assembling Handmade Gazebos

By Olive Pate

Your backyard definitely needs an upgrade and you cannot wait to get started on a new project that will bring the area life and appeal. You are considering the purchase of one of many handmade gazebos but don't quite know where to begin with your search and actual construction.

The decision will be mainly based on your talents with building, your budget, and how complicated the project is going to be. You can also think about purchasing a kit where all the made-by-hand pieces are ready for assembly.

If it is made by hand, then it is probably made out of wood although some can be made of vinyl. Wood is great because you can leave it a natural color or it can be stained or painted any color that you choose. You can paint it to match your house or the other accessories in the backyard.

These structures can consist of a huge variety of shapes and sizes. You can choose from round, rectangular, square, oval, or octagonal models. The one you select should fit your family needs and the areas where you are constructing the addition.

You will have several other decisions to make such as the shape and color of the shingles, what kind of flooring to use, and if you will be adding screens to the sides of the structure in the future. Many add unique and interesting touches such as tile work on the floor or a weather vane atop the roof. Others might add built-in seating, a small bar, or even a fireplace.

You can come up with your own design or find a pattern in a book that fits your style and personal preferences. There are many plans and kits online also. Some of the plans are free and some have a purchase price. If it is a quality design, it may be well worth the extra cost.

You may prefer a Victorian-style structure while others might lean toward a simpler addition. Realize that the gazebo will look best if it matches the other buildings around it, including the house. Take a hard look at the surrounding architecture and designs before choosing the plan you believe would work. For example, if you have a sleek and modern home, you would not be happy with the look of curlicues and other ornamental touches.

If you decide to hire an individual to take on this project for you, be sure to ask for pictures of work he has done in the past. Also ask for references and ask his opinion on the project. If he shares your vision and will do the work asked of him at a reasonable price, he is the man for you. If you order a style that is hand made from a building supply store or online, you may still need the help of a professional to assemble it.

You will get such a sense of well-deserved fulfillment whether you do the project yourself or not. A new and versatile structure will be added to your outdoor area for aesthetic appeal and an investment in your property. It will bring much enjoyment to you and your family members for many years to come.
