Reasons For Retiring In South Florida

By Jony Mozen

People work all their lives, have to deal with traffic, raising children and so on. Life can get pretty hectic and when people reach their golden age, it's time to rethink things. This is the time where they need to lay back and enjoy the rest of their lives in the ideal location. Below find the top reasons for retiring in South Florida.

Americans that live in the north, as well as Canadians, have found that the sunshine state is the ideal place to live, on so many levels. Mostly because of the weather, many flocked to retire in South Florida. Since it has very mild winters, it saves them from the brutal northern winters they've had to endure for a good part of their lives. Plus, it's loaded with pristine beaches that can really improve or maintain their health.

With its many sunny days, seniors find their getting their full dose of vitamin D, which is vital to their health and for the ease of absorbing other vitamins. While this may be unknown to some, there are many health risks related to low levels of vitamin D, which can bring on numerous health conditions and chronic illnesses.

The state itself is well known for its abundance of retirement communities, which attracts even more seniors. This is the place where they can socialize and come together. Being well maintained communities, they give seniors the opportunity to enjoy life through planned activities, fantastic restaurants, golf courses and more. Furthermore, many are close to the Gulf of Mexico, allowing for more active seniors to enjoy fishing or sailing without having to travel great distances.

Certainly, retirement communities are not for everyone. There are many senior citizens who are independent that prefer single-family homes, and the southern portion of this state has many affordable options. Moreover, many can also retire to smaller towns that boast oak trees and quaint antique shops, as well as orange groves.

A great advantage with South Florida is the property tax exemption. Many are very attracted to these savings, and for good reason. All one needs to do is declare their home as their legal permanent residents.

These tax exemptions on property when listed as one's primary residence, can be as high as $50,000. In doing so, seniors find their life's earnings will last longer. In this way, they won't have to make serious adjustments to their lifestyles.

In addition to affordable housing and tax exemptions, seniors can tackle their bucket list while living in Florida. Being a haven for retirees, it's loaded with activities for seniors, which include various day trips that ensure they stay active throughout the year. Many make their way down there and call the state their home once they retire, to the tune of virtually 900 new seniors each day.

One thing is for sure, with so many new retirees arriving each day, a better social life is on the horizon. Plus, it is easier to get out and about and socialize when the weather is favorable. Unfortunately, those in the north tend to be lonely. Statistics prove that seniors who socialize are healthier and live longer, which is something to consider.
