Prominent Examples Of Female Swedish Singers

By Irma Farrell

Each country can produce its own entertainment sensations. Sweden, in this regard, is like any other. Many actors and musicians have made their names within that country and some have gone to a more international stage, so to speak. For Swedish female singers, the history of these women is quite illustrious and deserves some attention. The can captivate on talent alone and here are a few examples as proof.

A prominent example can be made out of Theresa Andersson. She was born in 1972 somewhere within Gotland, Sweden. As a singer songwriter, the video for Na Na Na, one of her singles, was recorded in a do it yourself style and proved so popular that it attracted more than one million views on YouTube.

Another one is Linda Carlsson, better known as Miss Li. A very famous musician in her own right, one of her singles has been prominently featured on the Showtime original series known as Weeds. Another piece of her work called Bourgeois Shangri La was featured in an iPod Nano commercial.

Birgit Carp, known as Git Gay during her heyday, was a multi talented director, actress and vocalist. She was born Birgit Agda Holmberg in Karlshamn, Sweden in 1921. Her musical education began in earnest when her parents, wanting her to become a concerto pianist, had enrolled her to the Music Conservatory in Malmo.

Eventually, Sigge Holmberg, a director, was able to convince her to be a prima donna in his summer revue. This led to her performance at Stockholm the following year at the Grona Lund. It was yet another revue this time, it was Klart Gronan. Her successful ways continued towards the end of the century and was completed by a transition into senior TV presenting. She passed away in 2007, eleven days before her eighty sixth birthday.

Other examples include one of the members of Ace of Base. Her name is Clara Hagman, and was recruited for the purpose of replacing a recently departed band member. Not long after the new lineup was finalized, the group released a new album in September.

One of the most highly thought of singers of the nineteenth century was Johanna Maria Lind, who better known by her alias Jenny Lind was a Swedish opera singer. Her talents earned her the nickname Swedish Nightingale. Her amazing performance in Der Freischutz made her famous, although vocal damage a few years later nearly ruined her career.

Even within the metal genre, there are notable women to point out. One of them is Anette Olzon, who used to be in a band known as Alyson Avenue. Now she is a second lead singer in Nightwish, which is a metal band with Finnish origins.

There are many more examples to cite from a very diverse pool of talent. The definition of a Swedish female singer is one that is changing with the times. With each new innovation and achievement, they, as a whole, elevate themselves just a little bit higher than they were before. They are a point of pride for their nation, and their talents will see to it that the world will see things that way as well.
