Why You Should Pick Drop Ceiling Panels

By Gloria Mason

Drop ceiling panels are a great way to hide cables and wires that have to be run along the ceiling. While this wiring is usually hidden inside the roof space during building construction, additional lighting that has been added at a later time will still need to be hidden some other way. These panels are easy to install and upkeep, which makes them ideal for aesthetic appeal in both homes and offices. Their affordability and availability also adds to their appeal for many different types of homes and buildings.

You will most often see these panels in office buildings, but some homeowners do use them as well. Usually they are simple in design with only a few standard color and texture options available to choose from. This makes them very easy items to replace since they can be found so easily. Most hardware and building supply stores carry every standard option available, which eliminates the need for pricey special ordering during replacement.

When the hidden wires need to be accessed, simply push up on a panel to lift it and slide it over to the side. When you are finished repairing the wiring, slide the panel back in to it's place. Once it has been put back in it's place, no one will every know it has to be moved. Other ceiling options are much harder to move in order to access the wires they are hiding and covering up the fact that you have to remove a section is even more difficult.

Even if extensive repairs to wiring needs to take place, the pieces are just as easy to remove in large quantities as well. A whole room of them can be taken down, exposing all of the wiring, within minutes. This accessibility makes large jobs to wiring much easier to accomplish.

When used in home settings they are often chosen for a functional yet visual appeal. They are often incorporated into skylights, overhead lighting and certain styles of bathrooms. They can be adjoined to ceiling lights and can be installed at the same time, allowing for overhead lights to join the ceiling while still maintaining easy access.

Although they are very plain looking, you can always choose to place an order for a custom design. Stone and wood effects are available, as are many other texture options you won't see at your local building supplier. There are a variety of design possibilities if you want to go with a customized look.

By using metal tiles and alternating them with the panels you can achieve a very modern look in homes and offices. The look is very sterile and is often a choice for hospitals and medical clinics that want that clean visual appeal. Some homeowners have also been able to incorporate the same pattern into their homes with great success as well.

Drop ceiling panels are not sophisticated in their look, but they do offer practicality and accessibility while still providing at least some visual appeal for home or office. They require hardly any maintenance and only rarely need to be replaced. These unique qualities make them functional and serviceable choices for many different settings.
