Certain Stuff To Know About Sunless Tan Sprays

By Haywood Hunter

Exposing a beautiful and natural tan is a very popular trend among celebrities and not only. People with a very light skin are also looking to obtain a darker skin color, using various ways. The traditional way get a tanned skin is exposing to sun. But a prolonged exposure can do more harm to the skin, and can increase the probability of a skin cancer. An alternative to sun exposure are the sunless tan sprays, available in various formats. Tan sprays are just one example of sunless tanning products.

The main advantage of sunless tan sprays is the instant result. Tan sprays can be the easiest way to maintain a healthy glow through the entire year. Whether you are looking to build the perfect tan or to create a beautiful glow, tan sprays are the natural choice to get a beautiful bronze color. Tan spray is designed to achieve the perfect tan at home, or to enhance the spray application within professional studios.

There are many other alternatives to tan sprays, as for example sunless tanning lotions, oils, pills, etc. But the main advantage of the tan spray is the uniform coverage, and the application doesn't require rubbing or massaging the skin. It can be also used with success to reach difficult areas, as for example the back. These products are not having an oily structure, are drying very fast, leaving the skin free to breath.

The chemical composition of a tan spray is based on sugar, which is working with the skin's natural chemistry. The effect is a natural and beautiful tan, without risking harmful effects of the sun rays. Celebrities are the biggest users of sunless tanning sprays. Some have reported to have their own tanning spraying machine, and trained assistants to help them use it.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, lotions or tan sprays containing dihydroxyacetone (DHA) are the most efficient sunless tanning products. This derivate of glycerin interacts directly with the dead cells of the skin. The process activates the production of melanin, leading to the change of skin color into a darker one.

As the DHA interacts with the dead cells of the skin, this is not absorbed directly, and therefore is not toxic. But as the dead cells are removed constantly from the skin's surface, the effect of sunless tan sprays containing DHA lasts from five to seven days. The DHA substance was first time discovered around 1920 by German researchers, and it is used for the preparation of cosmetics for more than 30 years.

The use of DHA in the chemical composition of cosmetics, including tan sprays, restricts their use only for external application. For this reason all sunless tan sprays should be used only for the external body parts; lips or other surfaces covered by a mucous membrane should be avoided. For other sensitive areas, as for example around the eye, these products should not contain color additive, unless this is specifically permitted for this use.

A perfect and natural bronze can be easily obtained with the help of a sunless tanning product. It is important to know that these are not having the capacity to protect the skin against the damaging action of direct sun exposure. For this reason tan sprays should never be used as substitutes of sunscreen products.
