Before we discuss these things, let us first establish what a veteran is. To have claim over the title, a person must have went through active work in the military. Furthermore he is required to have been discharged with honor in order for him to acquire any of the disability benefits for vets.

On top of the list of the various vets benefits would be basically their pension. The pension is a monetary benefit that is given monthly. In order to receive this benefit, a veteran must have low income and assets, at least one day of working during wartime and at least ninety days of working, has total and permanent incapacity or is sixty five years old or older.

Furthermore, if you happen to have known a veteran who is experiencing illnesses caused by some combat related injuries then he can claim for a Combat Related Special Compensation. As the name suggests, in order to have this special compensation, a veteran must have a combat related and work connected impairment. Moreover, this advantage is only awarded to military retirees who have been serving the country for at least twenty years. However, a vet who has been given medical retirement and has not served for twenty years can also be awarded with this benefit.

If you do not have any service related disability and if you haven not served during wartime or combat operations then do not worry, this will not be a hindrance for having disability advantages. You can still apply for Health Care. This will definitely benefit those people who do not meet the qualifications stated in the previously mentioned perks.

For severe cases wherein the veteran was heavily injured due to his service, then he can definitely petition for admittance into the Nursing Home for Veterans.
