Weeds & Algae Can Harm Your Lake

By Roland Stockwell

While a lake or pond is an amazing water feature for a large property, keeping the water free from harmful algae and weeds can be complicated. The following items can really wreak havoc on your lake.

Of course, that light green algae might not be harmful in small amounts. But sludgy, soup-like algae are definitely harmful and this will need to be addressed quickly with a product that will eat up this algae and restore water quality. Algae can grow quickly, and not only do certain types of algae harm and even kill fish, they can be harmful for other types of wildlife and even cause illness in humans. Don't risk the health of your pets, family and other animals by allowing harmful algae to fester.

There are a variety of immersed and floating plants that can harm your pond water. An overgrowth of cattails, watermeal, azolla or duckweed can be harmful. There are also submersed plants, including bladderwort, that can harm your lake or pond.

When dealing with these issues, it is a good idea to bypass the chemicals and stick with safe and natural products. Chemicals of any kind can be dangerous for fish, wildlife and even plants that you do want around your pond. When you are dealing with a delicate ecosystem, keep it simple and natural when treating the water.

One option is Healthy Ponds natural AquaSpherePRO. This is a sphere-shaped vessel that begins to biodegrade once you toss it into the water. It is filled with a specially formulated mix of beneficial strains of bacteria. These bacteria reduce bacteria and other harmful elements.

The spheres will last for 30 days, and after the time has elapsed, you just add more spheres. This product has been approved by veterinarians and is safe for people, pets, fish and other wildlife. If you have problems with one of the aforementioned weeds or a lot of algae, Healthy Ponds has other safe, effective products that can work.

In general, using the AquaSpherePRO, you can often avoid the growth of different types of weeds and harmful algae. However, especially during summer months, these plants and algae can grow. If you find that the AquaSphere is not enough, choose similar natural products that will eliminate these harmful substances.
