When I Participated In A Color Run 5k, I Had A Truly Fantastic Time

By Kimberly A. Salzerell

Man, I just got back from one of the most bizarre, yet wonderful experiences of my life: the color run 5k. I know that many of you have probably participated in some 5k runs before, but this one was quite different. First of all, the website where I registered was far more whimsical and was actually funnier than any other event website I have ever seen, and when I got to the actual event, the staffers and volunteers were excited beyond reason.

Now if you are like I was a few weeks ago, you probably have no idea what a color run 5k is, so let me explain it to you. When I got there, they gave me a registration packet, and as I looked inside I was thrilled to find a cool t-shirt, some sunglasses and some other cool stuff. Once I fastened on my number, I put on my new sunglasses and did some stretches and waited happily for the race to start.

Once it sounded, I was off, running at a nice easy pace, because while I appreciate a bit of competition, I was there to have fun and get a bit of exercise. After just a few minutes of running, we found ourselves enveloped in a delightful cloud of color. All along the way, there were volunteers standing at the sidelines, known as the Color Bomb Squad, who would bombard the runners with the beautiful colored powder.

This is the spirit of the color run, and the reason everyone was having such an amazingly good time. I ran the whole five kilometers, getting a fresh coating of colors every few minutes, and by the time I reached the finish line, I was completely covered in vibrant color from head to toe, and I felt like a living, breathing rainbow.

At the finish line was a celebration like few I have ever experienced, and all of us who ran were admiring the unique and interesting color patterns on each other's faces. I wished I could just stay in that moment forever, but sadly, it did eventually come to an end, but I could keep the memory with me forever. It was so much fun that I wanted to go out and do another one straight away, and when I heard about the color run San Diego was having soon, I decided it would be the best time to go out there to visit my sister, and participate in another fun-filled color run while I was there.
