How To Decide Upon The Perfect Thailand Hotels For Your Vacation

By Adrian Smith

It's one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. The Land of Smiles has everything you could want for an unforgettable holiday. The food is exotic and incredibly tasty, the climate is pleasantly tropical, the beaches are beautiful and the ocean is warm and clear, the culture is fascinating, there is great shopping and the people are friendly. The tourism infrastructure is so well developed that it can be difficult to choose which Thailand hotels to stay at, but if you know where to look, you'll find the perfect accommodation in no time.

Formerly part of Indochina, the Kingdom of Thailand is situated in South-East Asia. The local currency here is known as the baht and the official language is Thai. However, many Thais can speak basic English too, particularly in popular tourist areas like Bangkok and the island of Phuket.

The capital city, Bangkok, is a bustling metropolitan area with eleven million inhabitants. In Thai it is known as Krung Thep. Infamous for its red-light district, the city also has something to offer for every taste, whether you want to focus on food and culture, ancient architecture, partying up a storm or maxing out your credit card in the shopping malls and markets.

The city has several districts and if you're looking for Bangkok hotels, it's a good idea to focus on a specific district to narrow down your search. Silom has a busy nightlife and some very expensive hotels. Ultra-luxurious and pricey hotels are also situated in Thonburi, along the river and near the canals and Bangkok's famous floating markets. If you want to be close to it all, Sukhumvit and Siam Square have options in the moderate to expensive price ranges. Budget travelers flock to the Khao San Road, which is a backpackers' haven.

If you want to hit the beach, you'll probably spend some time on Phuket Island. It is the country's largest island and the gateway to many of the smaller islands in the south. However, Phuket itself has so much to offer that you may not want to leave. Whether you want to participate in watersports, explore the jungle or simply want to relax in a spa, you'll find it here.

Most tourists choose Phuket hotels along the beaches on the island's western side. The most popular beach is Patong with its party atmosphere. Karon is a well-developed beach too, as is Kata. However, if you don't want to be overrun by other tourists, you're better off looking for accommodation in Phuket Town, on the south-eastern coast or more inland.

To get the best deals, you may want to avoid high season. This falls between November and February, when most visitors take advantage of the cooler weather to plan their Thailand holidays. The hottest part of the year is from March until June, so these months are best for visiting the beaches. Low season coincides with the rainy season between July and October. Humidity is high during this period and monsoon rains can limit your time on the beach, but showers are mostly in the afternoons and there are plenty of sunny days.

It's always best to book your choice of Thailand hotels well in advance, especially during high season. There are many travel websites with information on accommodation options and how to book. An alternative is to book through a travel agent, who can offer tailor-made package deals at lower prices.
