The Basic Components Of Suntan Lotion

By Haywood Hunter

Sunblock or indoor tanning creams may be classified as suntan lotion. However, these products are designed for different purposes. Sunblock, or sunscreen, is made as a skin protectant against UV radiation. Tanning creams do the opposite, by aiding in tanning methods.

Some common ingredients found in indoor tanning lotions include melanin and L-Tyrosine. These products may also include ingredients such as green tea extract, copper and various oils. Some include special ingredients that help moisturize or bronze skin. As their name suggest, these products for tanning are not made for outdoor use, as they offer no protection against the sun.

These products work in one of two ways: increasing amount of blood circulation to skin or adding to the production of melanin. Both increase the melanin in the top layers of the skin. Lotions should be used with a tanning booth or bed, which give off ultraviolet rays, but not outdoors.

Individuals who seek protection from the UV light of the sun may use a product called sunblock. As its name suggest, sunblock or sunscreen is designed to reflect or absorb rays from the sun. It may come in a variety of topical forms, including spray, gel and cream. Sunscreen is also used to prevent sunburn as a result of sun exposure.

There are organic particulates, chemical compounds or inorganic particulates in every type of sunscreen product. Sunblock may be classified as physical or chemical, depending on its function. Formulas considered chemical are designed to absorb sun rays. Formulas known as physical are made to reflect sunlight. Sunblocks are recommended for use by everyone, regardless of skin type, this is because it is known to prevent skin cancer or sunburn.

Suntan lotion can refer to sunblock or tanning cream products. These may be used differently, but both include formulas that are applied topically to skin. Sunscreen blocks are used as protection against exposure to the sun and tanning cream are used for indoor tanning, bronzing and moisturizing.
