In My Life Meaning Comes From Appreciation And Living In The Moment

By Lance Manyon

A sense of purpose and an enjoyment of life are two of the greatest contributors to happiness. There are those who effortlessly enjoy their lives and others who take decades to track down a sense of joy in their existence. Every individual has their own talents and pleasures. In my life meaning may come from friendships, pastimes and strong goals, whereas others find their purpose in their careers and homes.

Those who are passionate about a cause or pastime feel happier in their lives, particularly if they are goal driven. There are some who have talents that are difficult to miss and others who struggle for years to actively discover what they love to do. However long it takes to find one's passions, the rewards are worthwhile.

Most people work for a third of their lives. Those who set their careers in accordance with what they are skilled at and enjoy doing have more rewarding existences. Those who pursue their passions in their jobs often find that starting a career that makes use of their talents is less effortful than they imagined. Generally, the ease comes from the fact that people are often skilled in the activities they enjoy.

The link between talent and enjoyment is palpable. Those whose careers reflect what they love doing have more purpose in their lives. A popular opinion states that, to become an expert at something, one needs to practice a skill for 10 000 hours. Those prepared to put in that amount of work enjoy greater success.

Those who live balanced lives manage to satisfy their needs more efficiently. A well managed lifestyle can more successfully give people everything they require. A balanced lifestyle contains aspects of creativity, healthy living, rest, spiritual pursuits and relationships.

Maslow's hierarchy of needs theorizes that the most rewarding personal achievements can only be gained once the basic needs have been met. The ultimate goal in this theory is self actualization, which is the stage at which a gains self knowledge and achieves personal goals. This can only be achieved when a solid foundation is laid for the basic human need for health, rest, and personal connections with others are met.

Spirituality means something different to each individual. Some shy away from the word but practice its principles nonetheless. The definition of the word has changed over time. In the past, people tended to see spirituality as directly linked to religion. Today, the word can apply to those who don't participate in any religious beliefs.

Living according to spiritual principles is efficient at ridding one's life of unhealthy thought patterns and behaviors. Those who practice honesty, humility and authenticity enjoy positive consequences whilst those who practice dishonesty, insecurity and arrogance endure negative results.

Some people see self knowledge and authenticity as important parts of spirituality. These facets are vital for everyone, no matter what their religion. In my life meaning is found in existing in the current moment rather than the future and the past. People who can be present in the now can enjoy the beauty in the world.
