Baseball Card Sleeves

By Bob Cadsmith

The term Baseball Card Sleeves is frequently used to refer to the soft plastic baseball card holders also known as Penny Sleeves. These plastic holders provide protection for your baseball cards while they are being handled so you don't inadvertently nick a corner or get something on the card.

Collectible Card Games

Magic The Gathering, Pokemon, and other collectible card game cards can also benefit from the use of baseball card sleeves. These kinds of cards, despite not being baseball or sports trading cards, can also have a lot of potential for high values in the market.

If you're into any of the popular collectible card games then you know that there are some rare cards that can sell for over $100 or even over $1000 in certain games like Magic the Gathering.

With such potential for value it certainly makes sense to put some Baseball card sleeves to good use on these cards. The good thing regarding penny sleeves in this case is that you can keep the sleeves on while playing the games with the cards. It's not too difficult to shuffle your deck with the sleeves on and whether you're playing on a carpeted floor or a table-top you'll be a lot less likely to nick up those corners if you keep sleeves on the cards.

And Now, Back to Baseball...

Collectible Card Game cards do tend to be handled much more than baseball cards but that doesn't mean baseball cards don't get handled much at all, after all, what fun would collecting them be if we didn't look through them once in a while. Looking through our collections is nearly as enjoyable as finally finding that great card we've been hunting for.

Places to Buy Baseball Card Sleeves

Baseball Card Sleeves can be purchased at places like Amazon, eBay, baseball card shops, and sometimes at places like Walmart and Target. I've scoured the net and compiled my list of the cheapest options below. I'm sure if you scoured the web you could find cheaper but I'm not sure you'd want to, I've stuck to well respected brands that manufacture to a consistent and predictable quality level and have been doing so for years.

I'll let you in on a tip though from my own experience. Stick to the sleeves that are marketed for baseball cards regardless of whether you plan to use them for baseball cards, Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, or whatever other standard sized cards you're collecting. Card sleeves geared towards collectible card games tend to have much higher price tags.

My top choices for places to buy baseball card sleeves online are eBay and Amazon. A big advantage that Amazon has is faster and cheaper shipping costs than eBay seller's usually offer, especially for Amazon Prime members. For smaller lot sizes you'll often find that eBay sellers are offering better prices than Amazon but that when you factor in shipping costs Amazon's price turns out to be better, and sometimes by a long shot.

Amazon is almost always the better deal for any quantity under 1000 when it comes to price, speed of shipping, convenience, and the all important trust factor that comes from dealing with Amazon versus a random eBay seller. If you're buying a huge lot of Penny Sleeves then it makes sense to go big on eBay where you can save upwards of 30% per sleeve.
