Childhood Dress Up

By Aveline Brooks

When we are young, we dress up and we play pretend. When we get older, we dress up and play drunk. No matter what age we are, we're going to wear fancy dress at least once in our lives. More, if we're lucky; or unlucky, depending on your views. Dressing up in costumes is fun for everyone, age is simply not important.

Alice in Wonderland was Lewis Carrol's most famous creation. For years, the tale has been told and retold. And with each re-telling there have been redesigns of everything that Carrol originally created. This means that there have been hundreds of designs for every character, and from those designs and characters, we have more than hundreds of fancy dress costumes for most everyone.

Disney princesses and princesses are loved by little girls, and sometimes that admiration and love does not stop just because someone gets older. Young children enjoy dressing up like their favourite Disney princesses, swinging cute and pretty dresses around and pretending to be magical. Just because you grow up, does not always mean that you must then grow old along with it.

Villains of story books may be bad, but that doesn't mean they aren't as sought after as princesses, or the other good guys. Fancy dress retailers recognise this, and that is why they are willing to prepare, create, and offer you some amazing villainous fancy dress costumes, right alongside the good guys, the princesses, and each of the twee little woodland creatures.

A fairy tale will be told to us once, and stay with us forever. So why not relive the stories that we know best, by dressing up as the people in them and going out to celebrate. It is easy to be our favourite character because of the hundreds of options given to us, thanks to the wonderful world of fancy dress.
