Successful First Dates

By Brad Wilson

You may look at someone and fall in love at first sight. Sounds like a romantic comedy? Still, the feeling was real, and it intensified as you introduced yourself and began chatting with her.

Now, as you stand in front of your closet, trying to decide whether to wear a pair of chinos and a dress shirt or a suit for your first date, you can still feel it. But if you want a successful first date, you need to work harder. Only your quick wit and smile may not be enough.

Success On a First Date

If you don't scare her away, a woman could potentially become the love of your life. They will help you achieve a failure proof first date- that will lead to a second.

Attitude- You might look like a gentleman in gorgeous pin-stripe suit, but if you don't act like one, you aren't going to impress her. Be a gentleman regardless of who the woman is. Be polite and respectful.

Stay in the Present- The present should be your only concern. While conversations can drift to future career options and plans, do your best to stay in the present. And of course stay away from past and ex talk.

Don't Talk Incessantly- Even though you haven chosen your best blue dress shirt and chinos or suit, you may be a little nervous. Your first reaction might be to start rambling, because, after all, any topic that comes out of your mouth has to be better than nervous silence, right? Don't start nervous talk. Maybe ask her a question and counter the nervousness. You may encourage her to speak but don't look like you are on the sidelines at any point. Ignore your shaky knees and pay attention to what she is saying. You can always contribute to the conversation.

Clothing Trends- You need to be mindful of fashion trends. The classic men's suit is always right for formal occasions and you can wear a pair of chinos with a smart tweed jacket just as comfortably. If you cannot wear a blazer, polos and khakis should do fine.

Don't be nervous and you need to have fun. You want a second date right? A first date should be fantastic.
