The temperament of the Bengal is far from domesticated or docile, especially before the fourth generation. This is a mistaken notion however, as it is not the amount of shedding which causes allergy, but the dander contained within the fur. Sad to say, the dander volume in the Bengal fur is enough to cause allergies to come out. This is not a cat for you if you are allergic to felines.

In general the everyday Bengal is short haired, or of the short hair variety. In fact there does occur the long haired variety due to the emergence of recessive genes. Long haired varieties, or Cashmeres, are only recognized in the New Zealand registry. The jury is still out with regards to accepting the long haired variety as a viable breed in the international registries.

As has been mentioned this cat loves the water, ergo it will not pose problems in bathing sessions. They are also very adept at self grooming and they always try to look neat and tidy by themselves. A once a week brush over is required for coat upkeep, and bonding purposes as well between master and pet. Just make sure that these coat brushing sessions last at least thirty minutes.
