Proven Marketing Practices From The Offline World of Business

By Vincent Flynn

Always strive for simplicity with things in your business such as the site. As you are planning the site, the cunning approach is to deliberately work to create certain effects. All business sites want visitors to read and remain, and you can do a lot to encourage that. You never want to be annoying, or have anything that causes that to happen. So then you have seen things like Flash ads that move or simply too many ads which are detrimental.

The business that has a variety of products and resources such as mailing lists need to be smart about how they approach their marketing. Up close and personal is what this is about, and you will want to try this in your business as soon as possible. As you know, there are millions of products used by people in all segments of society. Look at all of your demographics, and then find a more suitable and direct way to market and advertise to them. You can hopefully realize that you will have to take different approaches for each demographic group.

Let's talk about the application of marketing segmentation, and this is a powerful process with wide applicability. Now perhaps you will recognize what we discussed in our example of many products and different groups. There is nothing hard about segmenting, and you just need to figure out what your groups are and divide them according to commonalities. So of course then you will only do this if you have a plan for what to do after the fact. Segmentation allows for more highly refined, and fundamentally different, marketing and promotional targeting. Once your messages are more targeted, then you will naturally see better results.

If you have a product that is targeted for a younger age group, such as age 20-25, then you will need to find where they hang out. If you think about social media and the more obvious parts of it like Twitter and Facebook, it really isn't all that difficult. If your product is for professionals who do business for themselves, you'll need to track them down. One very good place for that is LinkedIn.com because that site was made for that audience. This all probably seems really really basic but it is what will lend heft and focus to your marketing.

There is a lot involved with marketing, and those who do not make it usually know very little about it. What you want to do is find a way to really learn the kind of marketing that matters to your business. Of course you want to get moving and begin making money, but beware the trap of rushing into business. The consequence of be ill-prepared is making mistakes more than is necessary. If you take action, and you should, then you will learn one way or the other - or not and just quit.
