Your First Holiday

By David K Handerson

Travel can be one of the most rewarding experiences that you ever grant yourself. There is so much to see out there and so much to learn. However, it's smart to be prepared before you embark on any kind of travel adventure. Having the correct documents ready is just the first step.

Ask the hotel for an electronic air filter when you are traveling. Many rooms have windows that will not open, and they have a tendency to smell a little funny. An air filter does a great job of moving and cleaning the air, allowing you to relax and feel comfortable in your room. It also provides some background noise that could be helpful as well.

If you are traveling abroad you can be easily the target of a crime. Make sure you don't wear any expensive or conspicuous jewelry and carry an extensive amount of money. Following these two tips will lessen your chance of being pick-pocketed or being the target of a petty crime.

When traveling, don't pack your most valuable jewelry pieces. Packing them makes them vulnerable to thieves. The safest place for these items is at your house. If you absolutely must bring them, pack them in your purse, carry on, or a diaper bag. Consider how you'll feel if you lose the item before considering it to be a must pack item.

Anytime you are flying, you want to make sure that you check into the airport early. Even though you may not enjoy sitting at the airport longer than you need to waiting till the last minute means that you will be standing in much longer lines, and have a higher chance of missing your flight.

Consider picking up take-out menus and using them as your travel souvenirs. If you eat at a particularly great place, ask for a copy of the menu and write down what you ate on it. These menus can help you remember what you enjoyed and even allow you to seek out similar meals in your area.

If you find it necessary to receive mail when you are traveling, check ahead of time for options available to you. Many post offices within the United States, as well as foreign countries, will accept mail addressed to you and sent to "General Delivery." In addition, some banks and credit card companies will accept mail in their branch offices, if you are a regular customer of theirs.

If you are traveling with children, purchase disposable cameras for them. They do not cost a lot of money, and they will keep your child busy throughout the trip. Ask your kids to snap pictures of anything they want to remember from the trip, and you may end up with some pretty interesting pictures.

When packing flashlights or torches for your trips, make sure that they cannot be accidentally turned on which can waste your batteries during your travels. To do this, just simply take out the batteries and turn them around incorrectly. The fact that they are placed inside incorrect will avoid to accidentally turn on that could drain them. Just remember to turn them around for when you need them.

If you are looking for something a bit different why not try traveling and then staying gin a holiday yurt. They are often found on glamping sites and provide a unique and special way for you an your family to holiday. Make sure you find the biggest Yurt you can because if you have not stayed in a tent before a yurt will seam small!
