The Interesting Job Of Beekeepers

By Shari Swanson

Most people know how important bees are, and how their role in pollination is vital. New Jersey beekeepers have started to involve themselves with developmental projects that are aimed at industries surrounding the honeybee. The aim of such projects is to help fruit and vegetable farmers, who count on these tiny insects for the pollination of their crops.

Special Programs aimed at educating people as well as developing the honeybee industry have been set up. They offer starter packs and basic equipment to qualifying individuals living in New Jersey. In order for participants to learn more about this market and specific filed, they are advised to become members of the new jersey beekeepers Association.

Beehives are moved around in order to enable bees to do what they are the best; pollinate. The population of these insects has taken a huge decline due to mite that lives on the bee. The shortage of bees has become noticeable, and Agricultural departments are investing time in rectifying the problem, and to keep the population of these insects safe for future pollination

Over the last several years, there has been a drastic drop in the number of commercial beekeepers. It was estimated that in 2004 there were between 10,000 to 12,000 honeybee colonies. Together they produced a combined amount of about 320,000 pounds of delicious honey.

Not everyone can work with bees, as many people are very allergic. It is important to remember that when dealing with these feisty little insects, one should wear light colored clothing with a smooth texture. Dark colors and rough surfaces tend to aggravate bees, and that is the last thing you would want to do.

Should a colony have settled in your property and you wish to have them removed, be kind, and call out an expert. The beekeeper will need to know where the hive is located as well as how long the bees have been there for, in order to prepare for their safe removal.
