The Belt, Chain and Screw Drive Garage Doors- a Comparison

By Toby Gibbon

Often, a garage door may seem as a simple thing to you that allows easy access into your garage. The main purpose of installing a garage door is to stop the external elements from getting into your garage. IN case these doors are not automatic and require manual operation then it can be really frustrating to get down and open the gate manually every time. Garage door openers allow you to open garage doors with the use of a remote. The market is full of different type of garage gate openers and some of these includes chain driven, belt driven and screw driven openers. Let's see how these openers differ from each other.

The Screw Driven Garage Opener

These openers use a screw to open the door of the garage. It means that on pressing the button from your remote a screw turns in and hence opens the doo for you. These doors do not involve any belt or maintenance issues ant this is the reason why they are preferred in the market. These types of door openers provide self-lubrication, and are less noisy than the chain driven door opener, but not a match for the belt driven ones.

The Belt Driven Garage Door Opener

It is the best that can be used for a residential garage. It works like the chain driven system, and when the motor is triggered, the door gets opened and the belt pulls the door up or down. The belt driven door opener is very much quite compared to the chain driven system, and is suitable for houses that have their garages beneath the house. You can say that it is the best solution when it comes to choosing the quietest garage door. But somehow these doors are pretty expensive as compared to other doors.

The Chain Driven Garage Door Opener
It works similar to that of the belt driven system, but here, a chain is used to pull up the garage door or pull it down. The major disadvantage with these doors is the noise they produce while operating. It can be really annoying if you are looking for a silent door rather.

Though it has its advantages like it can handle more pressure comparatively and are cheaper too. So while selecting your garage door it is very important to consider these factors like the door should be quieter, safer and comparatively in your budget.
